Holmes, who died recently,came to Lyon county in 1857, and settledon a farm a few miles east of spending some years as an agricul-turist he moved tp Emporia and engagedin business, and was prosperous. He ac-cumulated valuable holdings of propertyand was interested in several enterprisesof benefit to the city. Mr. Holmes waspublic spirited and active for the interestsof Emporia. He was for some years en-gaged in the real estate and loan left a first-class record as an honor-able and
