A cute young Galapagos Sea Lion poses for a portrait on Rabida Island in the Galapagos Islands (Archipiélago de Colón), a province of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of South America. This species of sea lion (Zalophus wollebaeki) is almost exclusive to the Galapagos and has a very social nature toward visitors. These marine mammals and other wildlife have been given protection since 1959 with the establishment of the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation. Sea lions are referred to as eared seals because they have external ear flaps.
A cute young Galapagos Sea Lion poses for a portrait on the pink sand beach of Rabida Island in the Galapagos Islands (Archipiélago de Colón), a province of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of South America. These marine mammals and other wildlife have been given protection since 1959 with the establishment of the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation. Darwin is the English naturalist who made the Galapagos famous after he formulated his theory of evolution based on his visit to its 20 volcanic islands in 1835. Sea lions are referred to as eared seals because they have external ear flaps.
