Membrane.—The fourth layer of the cornea (Descemetsmembrane) is a thin homogeneous membrane possessing cliemical con-stitutents which serve to distinguish it from Bowmans is of the opinion that this corneal membrane is the product CORNEA 55 of the endothelial cells of the cornea which rest upon it. The membraneof Descemet breaks up into numerous fibers at the periphery of thecornea, forming the ligamentum pectinatum.
