Charles I, King of Sicily, Jerusalem, Albania and Naples. The ambitious French prince Charles of Anjou (1227-1285) conquered the Kingdom of Sicily from the Hohenstaufen dynasty in 1266. He acquired Albania in 1272 and in 1277 was proclaimed King of Jerusalem. In 1282 he became King of Naples as well, but lost Sicily in 1282 in the revolt known as the Sicilian Vespers.
