Farnham Common, UK. 18th October, 2022. On another warm Autumn day, the beautiful woodlands of Burnham Beeches were putting on a wonderful display of Autumnal fungi today. Unlike plants, fungi do not contain chlorophyll and so feed on plants and animals. Many mammals, invertebrates and birds depend upon fungi as a source of food this time of year when food is less plentiful. More than sixty of the species of plants and animals found in the woodlands at Burnham Beeches are either rare or under threat nationally. Credit: Maureen McLean/Alamy Live News
