Verbena
Also known as slender verbena and Texas verbena Texas vervain blooms in late March or early April through August and then starts tapering off Texas vervain is a tall spindly plant which has small about 1 4 wide light purple flowers that start forming along the stem gradually move up the lengthening stem as the plant grows The flowering stems get to be over six inches long and have a small bunch of blossoms at any given time Texas vervain grows to about two feet tall and by the end of summer can look pretty straggly as the lower leaves die The long stems bearing the seeds then start to fall over in all directions It is very heat and drought tolerant The individual plants rarely live more than a few years and die during their second or third winter but it reseed freely Texas vervain is known to have medicinal properties
