One end of B connects withthe push rod and the other end with the tension rod A and B are also connected through the tensionrod C. Air admitted to the cylinder causes the push rodto move to the right, carrying with it the lower end oflever B. Using rod (T as a fulcrum, lever B pulls on rod rod F as a fulcrum, lever B pulls on rod C. When the hand-brake is used, the push rod is pulled in andout of the hollow piston that holds it. It will be noticedthat the air brake and hand-brake operate in the samedirection, so that if the air brake were applied with thehand-brake already partially set, there could be no dangerto the motorman or the brake rigging.
