The stack is to be linedfor about half its height with brick. An open heater underthe stack will handle the turbine condensation and the make-upwater. A water-weighing device will be installed to facilitatechecking the turbine and boiler performances. The condensingequipment is of Alberger manufacture, and consists of twocounter-current surface condensers of 5000 sq. ft. of coolingsurface each, two 8-in. x 20-in. x 12 in. dry vacuum pumps, twocirculating pumps of 4000 gal. per minute capacity each, direct-connected to a 7-in. x 8-in. Sturtevant engine in each case, anda 2-in. hot-well, centrifugal pump, driven by a 12-in., two-stage, turbine. The condensers are installed be-tween the turbines for convenience in operation. The hot-. Galveston-Houston Railway—Lot Plan of Power Stationand Vicinity well pump is placed to receive the benefits of a gravity deliveryof the turbine condensation. FUEL AND AUXILIARIES The plant is designed for either oil or coal, although theformer fuel will be used for the present. Arrangements havebeen made to deliver oil by gravity from tank cars to concretetanks, whence it can be drawn into the boiler room. About twoweeks supply can be stored in each tank planned, and duplicatesuction lines are to be installed. The station has been de-signed with no basement below the turbine floor, the boilerroom floor being about 15 ft. higher than the turbine roomfloor. An oil-pumping equipment, heater, air chamber, strain-ers, etc., will be installed under the stack space. Provision ismade in the design of the station framing for coal pocketsabove the boilers. All auxiliaries are either in the turbine roomor close to it, none being in the boiler room. The oil pump Marc
