On ]May 27th, he made a des])erate attack on theworks and was powerfully aided by Farragut with his iieetin tlie river. But aside from dismounting a few guns andweakening the foe at a still heavier cost to their own ranks,the Federals were unsuccessful. Again, on June 10th, and stillagain on the 14th.
