Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Halophilic archaea (prokaryote). This pleomorphic rod, extremophile was found growing at high salinity ( times normal sea water concentration). It is an unknown genus likely, Halomicrobium or Halobacterium, from a group of bacteria, formerly called Archaebacteria or Archaeobacteria; now called Archaea. Magnification: x2,000 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
