Philips van Marnix (1538-1598) reknowned as a Dutch Protestant theologian and statesman. After receiving a thorough education he formed a friendship with Calvin and Beza. Holland soon claimed the services of Marnix whose principal political activity was exercised between 1572 + 1585. In Nov 1573 he was captured by the Spaniard. He was then taken to the Hague then Utrecht where he was induced to make vain negotiations for peace.
