Apollo 11 Launch, 1969
July 16, 1969 launch of the Saturn V rocket carrying the Apollo 11 spacecraft, with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin on board. Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. Armstrong and Aldrin landed the Lunar Module (the gray, flared section of the rocket at lower center) on the Moon, while Collins orbited in the command and service modules (the cone at the top of the rocket and gray cylinder beneath it).
