Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a rhabdomyosarcoma cancer cell (green) being attacked by a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell (orange). Rhabdomyosarcoma is an aggressive childhood cancer that arises from primitive skeletal muscle cells (rhabdomyoblasts). Tumours cause painless masses under the skin, most often around the head and neck and genitourinary tract. CAR T-cells are cells from a patient's immune system that have been extracted and modified to recognise and attack the patient's cancer cells, before being reintroduced to the patient. Magnification: x4,000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
