Lunokhod-1 lunar rover. Lunokhod-1 was the first remote-controlled lunar roving vehicle. This Soviet rover was launched in November 1970 on board the Luna 17 spacecraft. On the Moon, it travelled more than 10 kilometres and survived for over ten months. A second Lunokhod vehicle was landed on the Moon by the Luna-21 spacecraft in January 1973.
