It is situated in the north-west of the Morea, at the entrance of the Gulf of Lepanto. The ancient Patrae stood on the declivity of Mount Voidhia, but the modern town occupies a portion of the low and unhealthy plain between the hill and the ruined Roman aqueduct is one of the few relics of antiquity at Patras. Its principal trade is in currants of the best quality, large quantities of which are raised all along the north shore of the Morea. The population of Patras is about 8000'.
