Alday was reappointed toStroudsburg. His pastoral relations, which hadbeen greatly blessed of God, terminated withthe Conference of 1868. In 1868 and 1869 William M. Ridgway wasthe pastor of Stroudsburg. In 1869 WilliamCooper was appointed presiding elder of NorthPhiladelphia District. The question of enlarging the old church, orbuilding a new one, was carefully considered by. the official members in the latter part of BrotherRidgways first year and the early part of hissecond, until the conclusion was reached that anenlargement of the old edifice, in an entirelydifferent style of architecture, was an absolutenecessity. In June, 1869, the work of remod-eling was begun ; the old front walls were torndown, the roof taken off, the floor of the mainaudience-room raised, an addition of fourteenfeet made to the front of the building and arecess of eight feet added to the rear work was pushed forward with vigor, undertin superintendence of a building committee,us consisting of the pastor and R. S. Staples, C. and D. Keller, Esqs., until the newroof was put on and the lecture-room was readyfor occupancy; the congregation in the meantime, by the courtesy of the county commission-ers, worshipping in the court-house.
