Dwarf Lake Iris Iris lacustris Northern Lake Huron Shoreline USA by DPA Dembinsky Photo Associates This designated threatened species of Iris is confined mainly to the shores of northern Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Where suitable habitat occurs in these locations, it is extremely abundant reaching dense colonies in the thousands. It favors alkaline or neutral soils ( alvars ) blooming mainly in late May and early June.
