Tal Abyad, October 2019. The sunset in the Syrian northern city of Tal Abyad near the Syrian-Turkish border. The city has recently been captured by the Turkish Armed Forces and the Syrian National Army as part of a military offensive against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the People Protection Unit (YPG) in northern Syria, on the east of the Euphrates. The ongoing Operation Peace Spring has been launched by Turkey on 9 th October with the stated aim to push the YPG from the Turkish border and to create a safe zone in northern Syria for the return of Syrian refugees
