The old Strand Union Workhouse and BT Post Office Tower in Cleveland Street, central London. SEE DESCRIPTION FOR DETAILS.

This building in Cleveland Street, currently in the ownership of University College London Hospital, was originally the Strand Union Workhouse. It was built in the 1770s and it is thought that it may have been the inspiration for the workhouse described by Dickens in Oliver Twist - Dickens lived nearby when young. There were proposals to redevelop the site but it has now been listed, although this may allow the development of residential apartments behind a retained facade.
