Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) larva. This agricultural pest hatches from an egg laid on the underside of a leaf. An individual larva can consume 40 square centimetres of plant material a day. When mature, this larva will metamorphose into an adult beetle. Colorado potato beetles are a serious insect pest of potatoes and other crops. Both adults and larvae feed on the plant's foliage and may completely destroy the crop.
