Gustavus Franklin Swift (1839-1903), American business executive. Swift worked in the livestock and animal slaughtering business from the age of 14. He later founded Swift & Company in Chicago in 1885. Swift revolutionized the meat-packing industry by using new refrigeration technology, rail and production line methods. He also promoted that the unused parts of animals should be turned into glue, soap, fertilizer and oleomargarine.
