An old engraving of an ancient statue to the god TERMINUS with his motto which translates as Yield to No One. Terminus poles or statues were erected at the ends of roads or entrances to towns in the ancient past, and were often decorated by travellers as they arrived or passed them. In Roman religion, Terminus was the god of boundaries . Sacrifices were performed to sanctify each boundary stone, and edach year a festival called the "Terminalia" was celebrated on February 23. Some recognised him as an aspect of Jupiter (Jupiter Terminalis)
