Motor effect demonstration. Apparatus used to demonstrate the magnetic field produced when an electric current is passed through a wire. A length of wire connected across a power supply, has been placed between the poles of a permanent magnet. When current is passed through the wire, a magnetic field is induced in it. The magnetic field of the permanent magnet repels that of the coil, causing the wire to move.
