In his political views Mr. Smith was aRepublican and he ever took a commendableinterest in public affairs. He enjoyed thewell earned distinction of being what thepublic terms a self-made man/ and ananalyzation of his character revealed thefact that enterprise, well directed effort andhonorable dealing were the essential feat-ures in his prosperity. JOHN M. BALDWIN. The agricultural interests of Vermilioncounty form a very important part in theprosperity which it enjoys. A representa-tive of this honorable and useful occupationis John M. Baldwin, who was born Septem-ber 20, 1857, near Ridgefarm. in Vermilioncounty, Illinois. His grandparents on thepaternal side were James and Rachel (Par-ry) Baldwin. He is a son of Franklin andEditha (Naylor) Baldwin.
