PITSFORD RESERVOIR in northamptionshire which is affected by the drought
PITSFORD RESERVOIR IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE WHICH IS ONLY 55% FULL. NORMALLY THE MOSQUITO WOULD BE ON THE SURFACE OF THE WATER. A reservoir in Northamptonshire which is only 55 per cent full is one of the worst examples of Britain's winter drought - as the Government holds an emergency levels are 20 per cent lower than they should be at this time of year at Pitsford, which is the third largest reservoir in the country and supplies the nearby towns of Northampton and months ago Anglian Water applied for a winter drought permit for the first time in more than a decade, so it could drain extra water from the River Nene to feed the reservoir in Pitsford, but levels are still much too low."Pitsford is fed by the River Nene which is extremely low after two successive dry winters," said a spokesman for Anglian Water today."The winter drought permit means we have been able to take more water and levels have risen by about 5 per cent in the reservoir in the last couple of months, but we haven't been able to take as much as we would have liked as it simply hasn't been there."We are asking people to conserve water, which may sound strange as it's a message they are more used to hearing in the summer."According to the Environment Agency, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, and West Norfolk have seen their lowest yearly rainfall levels since now faces a hosepipe ban this summer and water companies, farmers and wildlife groups are attending a drought summit today (Mon) hosted by Environment Secretary Caroline said: "Parts of the UK are already being affected by drought this year. That's why I'm bringing together experts and key players in the water industry to make sure that we~re all working in the most effective way possible. "All of our activity is going to be carefully coordinated so that we are able to minimise the effects of unpredictable water ava
