In 17^8 he quitted Dumner,to reside at Stoke-abbey in Devonshire, thescat of Paul Orchard, esquire, where he livedupwards of two years in great esteem andfriendship with that gentleman. In 1740 heundertook the curacy of Bidileford, in the samecounty, where he was greatly beloved by thepeople, who formed a large congregation,though his stipend was small; his friends,tlurefore, made a yearly collection for him, bywhieii means his income was raised to sixtypounds per anaum.
