A French sabre for officers of the Garde Nationale, circa 1792, Sturdy, slightly curved, single-edged blade with a double-edged point and shallow fullers on both sides. Ornamental décor etched on the forte, with remnants of blueing and gilding. The motto "Sans peur et sans reproche" on the obverse, the root of the blade marked "Abraham Poeter Fabricant à Solingen". Brass knuckle-bow hilt decorated in relief, the fire-gilding well preserved.
