Notwithstanding the large increase in the number of volumespublished this year, the demand for books has been such that thestock on hand at the close of the year is much less than it was atthe commencement. With all its increased facilities, and with itsfifty workmen and its steam presses, it has been unable to keep upwith the demand made upon it for its publications.
