In all those varieties of loops, whorls, etc., the designs—if wemay call them so—are not only various in themselves but occur inthe most varied positions. It is in this respect that care must betaken to discover whether a particular pattern coincides withsome other in such a way that the coincidence is one of actualposition and not a mirror repetition or a repetition of a pattern whichmay occur in other parts of the palmar surface than the last joint ofthe fingers, often called finger-tips.
