The design ofthe dump car is unusual in that it consists of a steelframe supporting the steel body, mounted on two pairsof wheels. The concrete is dumped at right angles tothe track by the car operator, and the concrete is spreadto the level of the tops of the ties by one of the hingedsections of the drop bottom. The movement of the car along the track is quiterapid, and the round trips between the mixer and thepoint where the concrete is dumped are practically con-tinuous. As soon as the car reaches the desired spotthe operator gives the signal for the return trip anddumps the car simultaneously. In other words, at thetime the car is dumped the winch operator reversesthe cable and the car is returned to the mixer. In so.
