This is allthe more surprising when the great im-petus given to Southern progress by theAtlanta Exposition in 1881 is remem-bered, and likewise the many benefits,fewer proportionately it must be con-ceded, flowing from the Cotton Centen-nial at New Orleans in i884-85.
