The traveler who is in search of a nights lodging only?can obtain it at any of the hotels at reasonable rates, theprices ranging from fifty cents for a bed in one of the third-class houses, to two dollars in such hotels as the Lindell orSouthern. Scattered all over the city, however, are lodg-ing houses where rooms may be rented by the night orweek. These will be found in the central portion of thecity, along Sixth and Seventh and on Market, Chestnut,Pine and Locust, as well as in the neighborhood of theUnion Depot. In selecting such lodgings, the strangermust be careful to inquire from the policeman on the beat,the character of the house, as often Furnished Roomssigns are displayed on the fronts of houses of ill repute. A bed may be had in a good clean lodging house for aslow as twenty-five cents, but it
