Another and very effective method, one I often employwhen I hypnotize one person—singly, is to let the subject gazefixedly at a lighted candle for about three minutes, held at sucha height that it requires considerable effort on the part of thesubject to look at it. The subject must not wink the eyelidsany more than is absolutely necessary, and must draw the breath. A PRACTICAL MODERN METHOD. deep and in a measured time. Suddenly I push him backward and quickly glance intohis eyes. Surprised he recoils, and immediately the impressionof his eyes indicates to me his degree of susceptibility.
