Seville, Spain - 16 June 2016; commuters in view; pre-COVID. Seville-Santa Justa railway station is the main terminus of Seville, Andalusia. It was opened in 1991 with the inauguration of the Madrid to Seville high-speed rail line. Here we see one of those modern High Speed Trains, a streamlined Talgo 350 . This is part of the Alta Velocidad Espanola (AVE) service of high-speed rail in Spain, which operates at speeds of up to 310 km/h (193 mph). Alta Velocidad Espanola translates to Spanish High Speed, but the initials are also a play on the word ave, meaning bird. The Spanish AVE system is the longest HSR network in Europe.
