HABITAT: Dry to moist tinickets and woods. STATUS: Rare in Canada. Endangered in North Caro- lina and North Dakota; threatened in South Carolina; rare in Alabama, Georgia, and South Dakota. NOTES: Several of the northern populations, which are probably clones, are under heavy rabbit prédation and rarely flower or fruit. Many other populations are small, consisting, in some cases, of individual plants (J. Ambrose pers. comm.). This species was reported from Sydney Bay on the Bruce Peninsula (Thomson 1970), but no specimen was collected. It was found along a roadside and may have been planted (G. Thomson pers. comm.). REFERENCES / SOURCES Fox, , & Soper. 1953.
