A summer in northern lands; the journal of a trip to Scandinavia . boat bound for Oie. The craft, which ismanned or undermanned by a crew of twolads, about fourteen and sixteen years old,is seaworthy, but that is about all one cansay in its favor, for a dirtier, greasier tub,it would be hard to find. Our only fellowpassengers are a couple that hail from NewJersey, but who try to make us believe theylive in New York City. We chugged alongdown the Nordfjord through a part of theS tor fjord and turned into the Jorundfjord, which is one of the most superb in Norwayand is quite different from the deep cut andupright walled canyons of most of the otherfjords. Here you see picturesque rangesand mountains, some of them with alpinepeaks, others with great notches (skard),while above are snow and glaciers. Turninginto the Norangfjord, an arm of the Jorund-fjord, we soon came to Oie, where we dinedat the Union Hotel. This hotel seems to bequite a resort for mountain climbers. In abook, kept in the reading room for the pur-pose, a number of boobies have scribbled.
