Warsaw: people waiting to see the coffins with bodies of president Lech Kaczynski and his wife (read description for more)


The photo was taken 16 th April 2010 on Krakowskie Przedmiescie Street in Warsaw, Poland. Thousands of people were standing in a long, huge queue to see the coffins with bodies of president Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria, died in a plane crash, exposed in Presidential Palace (not seen on photo). Polish Tupolev Tu-154M crashed near Smolensk, Russia, killing all 89 passengers and 7 crew members, including polish president Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria, Commanders-in-Chief of polish Armed Forces, many politicians (members of parliament and senators), vice-speakers of parliament, the national bank governor nad many other notables. They all were flying from Warsaw to participate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. In Poland they were a lot of ceremonies after this tragedy. People were gathering on streets, lighting candles and praying.
