The mito- chondria of the muscle (or sarcosomes) are characterised by the possession of numerous cristae (Fig. 4b). Granules of glycogen (Fig. 4b) measuring about 25 ran in diameter occur commonly between the myofibrils and are thought to be responsible for the strong positive reaction to the test for carbohydrates.
