During the spring of 1967, I spent nearly every weekend from Febru- ary 20 through June 30 in the study area col- lecting data. In the spring of 1968, field work was again conducted from late February through June 30. In the course of this two-year project, no fewer than 450 man-hoius were devoted to the field studies. Owing to the large size of the study area, a small portion was chosen in which a more de- tailed, intensive study could be conducted (Fig. 9).
