Painted iron post with rounded top inscribed ' ', at base of wall of All Hallows churchyard in Tower Hill

From the middle ages until the mid-19th century Tower Hill or Tower Liberty as it was originally known was a self-governing province of London. These markers were erected in the 19th century to define the exact boundaries although shortly afterwards the area was absorbed into City of London, later the Borough of Stepney and finally as it is today in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
