The baroque church of San Giovanni Battista (Saint John the Baptist) is located above Cervo village and is a good example of the Ligurian baroque architecture. Cervo is a small and ancient town located on top of a hill with elevated view of Mediterranean sea in the province of Imperia, Liguria, Italy. Cervo's long history stretches back over two thousand years, in the second century BC, the Romans established a stopping point here on the Via Aurelia, at that time an important trading route leading to the areas of present-day France and Spain. Cervo is officially classed as one of the 'most beautiful villages of Italy'.
