Sept. 16. 1861 Aug. 25, 1862 BALTIMORE OR DIX LIGHT HE command known as the Baltimore or Dix Light Infantry,consisting of five companies of infantry, was organized at Bal-timore, Maryland, in November and December, 1861, to servethree years. It was contemplated to increase this command to a full regi-ment of picked men, under the supervision of General John ADix, then in command of the Department of project did not meet with the response anticipated, and the original fivecompanies were consolidated into two companies and transferred May 24, 1862, tothe 3d Regiment of Infantry, Maryland Volunteers. This consolidation and transfernecessitated the discharge of all the field and company officers, save and except thecomplement of officers necessary for the two companies transferred- COLES CAVALRY,FIRST REGIMENT POTOMAC HOME BRIGADE CAVALRY.
