The Angel of the North, designed by the artist Anthony Gormley, is regarded as the Gateway to the North.


“The Angel of the North” in Gateshead, is now regarded as the Gateway to the North. Designed by Antony Gormley, the scale of this metal sculpture is awe-inspiring. It is 20 metres [65 feet] high with a wing span of 54 metres [175 feet] – almost as long as the wings on a jumbo jet. It weighs 200 tons.
