Car production line at the Volkswagen Transparent Factory, Dresden, Germany. This factory, opened in 2001, was built to make the luxury Phaeton car model. The production line combines automation and manual craftmanship to ensure high standards of construction. Customers and tourists can tour the factory and watch the construction of the cars in clean, quiet areas with natural lighting. This stage is a conveyor belt of overhead carriers that are used to rotate the car to allow workers to fasten component parts underneath the car. These are obtained from the parts rack that travels with each car, here seen at lower right. Doors, wheels, engines and windows are added later.
