Penis circumcision. Image 5 of 9. Surgeon cauterising (burning through) a patient's foreskin. Circumcision is the removal of the foreskin from the penis. It is commonly practised in the Jewish and Islamic faiths, where individuals are circumcised during childhood. Others may choose to have circumcision for health reasons, such as eliminating a problematic foreskin.
