Francis Beaumont, Playwright


Francis Beaumont was born in 1584 and died in 1616. He became a significant Elizabethan playwright particularly well known for his work in collaboration with fellow playwright John Fletcher. He was educated at Oxford University for a while, but left to become a student of Ben Jonson. His principal works include, The Knight of the Burning Pestle written independently and The Woman Hater, Philaster and The Maid’s Tragedy et al written with Fletcher. He is buried in Westminster Abbey.
