Volcanic rock, Iceland. Aerial photograph of the Eldhraun region in southern Iceland. The land is composed entirely of solidified volcanic lava originating from the eruption of Laki Fissure in 1783. Covering the rock is a blanket of moss. Depressions and mounds on the surface of the land indicate that the area was once marshland. The craters were created by marsh gas erupting through the fresh lava.
