Torsion of the testis. Light micrograph of a section through a testis (testicle) that has been affected by torsion (twisting) of the spermatic cord. The arterial supply and venous drainage of the testis pass in the spermatic cord, which runs from the abdomen to the testicle. This cord is liable to twist, causing compression of the thin walled veins and obstruction of venous drainage. This can lead to tissue death (necrosis) in the testis (pink, lower centre) and epididymis (red, centre) due to a lack of oxygen.
