Gastrostomy tube being used to feed a 57-year-old man who has throat cancer. The cancer (of his pharynx) means that he cannot take food normally through his throat and oesophagus. A PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube has been inserted (lower centre) into his abdomen. The tube will have been inserted into his stomach or into his small intestine, and is used to supply nutrients directly, bypassing his throat.
