Le Défenseur du Temps (The Defender of Time) is tucked away in a passageway called Quartier de l'Horloge (Clock Quarter), near Centre Georges Pompidou. The impressive brass-and-steel mechanized clock, was designed by Jacques Monestier in 1979. Standing 4 meters tall and weighing a ton, it depicts a soldier defending the passage of time against the elements: air, earth and hour he is attacked In the shape of savage beasts, to the accompanying sounds of earthquakes, hurricanes and rough seas. At 2pm and 6pm, he has to face all three.
